Uden Cup Vs Deerpark
In a tight and even contest, Sutton come out on top with a resounding Quarter-Final Victory in the end.
Match 1: David Walsh & Gordon Linehan:
David & Gordon were quick out of the traps taking a commanding 3 up lead through 6 holes. Deer park battled back in tenacious fashion to get the match back to all square with 2 holes to go.
With their opponents in trouble on 17, David hit a fine 5 iron from 170 yards into the wind to within 20ft of the hole just off the back edge. A fine par was good enough to take the lads 1up , with 1 to go.
By now the crowd had started to gather, Gordon found the 1st Fairway off the 18th while David was in the left rough, their opponent’s felt the pressure of the situation and one found the beach, while the other found the grass mounds above the 8th Green, Gordon & David both hit fantastic shots in to the greenside bunker in 2, on a day players were struggling to get to the green in two. Both lads proceed to play fantastic bunker shots on to the green and the deerpark players graciously conceded and shook hands.
Match 2: Joe Kelly & Aidan Mc Williams
Joe & Aidan simply demolished their opponents on a tough windy day. Joe set the tone by driving through the first green & over the water on the 2nd Hole to be greenside and start Birdie-Birdie. Aidan then followed up by rattling off some impressive pars to build a healthy lead of 6up thru 6 holes. Aidan showed his experience hitting Driver, Driver to the 9th Hole and 2 putting for a par to win the hole. The lads closed the game out 7&5, to follow their impressive previous round victory of 5&4.
Match 3: Micheal O Halloran & Noel O Halloran
Micheal & Noel were in a battle from the get-go against the strongest pairing from Deer Park. They were up against it, their opponents a couple of young big hitters.
The lads were 3 down through 6 holes, but showed their experience to hang on in the game until the very end where they clawed the match back to All-Square ,through 17 holes.
Match 4: Away - David Carvill & Barry Joyce
The new kids on the block casually strolled to a 3up lead early on and never looked back closing out the game 4&3, getting a vital point away from home.
Match 5: Away - Kieran Cussen & Larry Brennan
The lads were in a nip & tuck battle, trading blows on the front 9 and going from 1down to 1up , then back to All -Square. The lads battled to the 15th Hole where they were called in 2 up.
