Women’s Challenge Team Trophy.

This is a new team event introduced by Golf Ireland for high handicaps, 36 h.i. and higher. Its aim is to give experience to higher handicap women golfers to play on a team for their club. The format is innovative and suited this category of golfer. It is made up of a team of five players who play nine holes stableford with three best scores to count.

With the influx of new women members into SGC in recent years there were lots of players available in this range. Preparation started in February with great participation, enthusiasm and practice. There was a bye into the second round which was played against Ashbourne GC on 30th May, with Ashbourne having home advantage for all five matches. This was to our disadvantage. The result on the day was disappointing and especially for the team.

They enjoyed the experience and played their hearts out. The opportunity gave the team valuable team playing for the future.

The photo below shows our team in the navy and pink club uniform, together with their caddies and team manager.
