Match Reports
Sutton lose 3-2 in a cliffhanger against last years Leinster finalists.
The ever committed and dependable Alan Darbey led the team out at home and was nip and tuck all the way in a high quality match which was ultimately lost on 17th. Ryan Hannon marked his return to Sutton in fine style, forging ahead early and closing out his match on 16th, his putter doing most of the damage.
First out away was debutant, Luke O’Reilly, who despite being 3 down after 6 fought back to All Square after 16, compliments of some booming drives. The match was decided on 18th green with L&B just sneaking the win. Next out was another recent signing, Shane O’Sullivan, who comfortably won his match 6&5 combining laser like accuracy off the tee with some stellar putting. Another Sutton stalwart, Mark Coates, played in the anchor match and despite producing the better golf lost another humdinger on 18.
All in all a sickening defeat but one which the players can be immensely proud of, the quality of golf played was exceptional and acknowledged by opponents who have been at the business end of this competition for the last few years.
However, the level of performance produced by our premier players and introduction of some new talent augurs well for other inter-club teams this year.
