All Ireland Mixed Fourball V Balbriggan

In a brand new competition this year, Sutton fielded a very strong mixed team to do battle against Balbriggan last Sunday 14 th April. Despite some fantastic golf played by our home pairings of Gareth Noone & Bernadette O Brien and Dave Carvill and Marie Jones, only Dave and Marie could secure the win so we needed the away team to do the business.

Alison Newman and Noel O’Halloran came up against an in-form Sandy Forsythe and partner and could only get to the 17th before bowing out. So, as often happens, we were down to the last pairing of Sabina Cassidy and Tom McGreevy who played super golf over nearly 6 hours (!) and in the dark to win their match on the 18 th. And now at 2 all, on to sudden death!

Tom and Sabina were the nominated pairing for Sutton and of course they were primed and ready for action having just won. However, the light was gone so they had to come back on Monday evening when the formidable Sandy Forsythe drained a 50-footer on the first green to claim the match on the first tie-hole.
