Leinster Men's Trophy v St Annes

We played a very determined and well prepared St Anne’s team in Round 1 of this interclub singles matchplay competition (formerly the “Metro”), on April 21st. Despite missing a few players due to early season form and other commitments, we fielded a very strong team. We had a good balance between players with significant interclub experience and a couple of debutants. It is fair to say that there were a number of close calls for team selection.

 While it was a tremendous team effort in securing a 4.5 to 2.5 victory, it was the performance of the 2 debutants, Donncha Butler and Dermot McMurray that stood out.  Both played in St Anne’s and both won their matches. Donncha won his match 6 up which included 4 birdies. Dermot sank the winning putt on the 18th to take us through to Round 2. These were highlights in a great team performance.

 The team was Mark Logan, John Lally, John Houston, Danny Buckley, Niall Kennedy in addition to Donncha and Dermot. Congratulations and well done to each of you.
