Super Seniors played their last match of the 4 match Group stages on Monday, against the newly named Jameson Links.

Against strong opposition we won the match 2.5 to 1.5, a great performance.

Frank Kennedy and Cathal Saunders, playing at home, demolished the opposition winning 6&4. Enough said!

Gerry McInerney and Paul Tierney won the 18th hole to half the match. Their better ball score for the 18 holes was 2 over! Their opposition sank a 70 ft putt to go 1 up on 17, they played the 18th textbook to win.

Playing away Dave O’Neill and Joe Comyn went down 18 all square, Dave giving a shot to everyone. Closely watched by VC Larry and Ronan O’Driscoll both had good drives and navigated their way green side. With Joe on in 3, Dave played a “shot of the match” chip from a horrible lie in the rough in to 2 foot and eventually sank the putt for a par and a 1 up win.

Tony Higgins and Declan O’Callaghan met the perfect storm, two high handicappers, both receiving lots of shots off Tony, and both playing way below their handicap. One of them in particular sinking putts from everywhere. Result was defeat at the 14th.

So now we wait for other results from our Group - we have 19 points from our 4 matches, The Island have 9 points with two matches remaining, and Portmarnock have 7 points with 2 matches remaining - they are playing each other in their 3rd match today. Hopefully Portmarnock can do us a favour!
